Conditionally Immortalised Proximal Tubular Cell Line

Proximal tubular cells (PTCs) are vital for the reabsorption of filtered solutes from the glomerular filtrate of the kidney. Key to this function is the expression of various transporters. Current available human immortalised PTC lines express too few transporters, and primary cells offer a limited amount of material before dedifferentiation occurs. Conditional immortalisation of the PTC line overcomes these issues, by enabling the in vitro differentiation of cells in a manner similar to in vivo differentiation. Unlike other cell models, this homogenous, stable cell line expresses two of the key transporters (apical efflux transporter p-glycoprotein and basolateral influx transporter organic cation transporter 2) pivotal to the PTC functionality. 

Please be aware:

  • The cells arrive in 2 x T25 culture flasks, about 2 million cell/flask.
  • These are live cells, not frozen.
  • You will need an incubator and media ready for the arrival of the cells.
  • Live cells are sent by FedEx but not dry ice shipping.
  • Orders are prepared in batches (rather than preparing the cells for each collaborator individually) which may result in a delay of up to 2 months from payment date in sending the cells.
  • During checkout, we ask that you provide us with any known closure dates/holidays over the next two months that mean you would be unable to receive the cells.
  • During checkout, you will be asked to confirm that you have checked if import permission is required by your shipping destination, and arranged if necessary to do so.
